Well, this week’s Flashback Friday was prompted by a recent visit to Bed Bath & Beyond during which I heard the classic 80s song “Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly)” by the British band The Icicle Works.
Starting with the self-titled debut in 1984, the disappointing sophomore effort The Small Price Of A Bicycle in 1985 and then the 1987 comeback If You Want To Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song, lead singer and songwriter Ian McNabb proved to be one of the best songwriters in the reborn Liverpool music scene. But by 1990’s Permanent Damage the band had disintegrated and McNabb made the album on his own with some friends. He’s released at least nine solo albums starting with Truth And Beauty in 1993. The most recent one being released via his website in February of 2012 called Little Episodes. In 2008 he released his autobiography Merseybeast.
